The Art of Appreciation

This is a beautiful article written by Laura Grace which I choose to share with you here ~ enjoy it!

"Love is the way I walk in gratitude." ~ A Course in Miracles

Appreciating all that we have in our life produces harmonious relationships, creative and meaningful work, physical wellness, and genuine, long lasting prosperity. Appreciation validates our worthwhile affirming we are deserving of having everything our heart desires. And as we relish all the wonderful aspects of our life, more abundance is allowed to pour forth, creating a consistent wellspring of balance, joy and peace.

While teaching, I regularly pose the question, "How abundant do you feel in your life's work? How many of you are allowing your creativity to be your livelihood?" People will often wrinkle their noses for very few feel they are doing what they love to do. Yet, whenever we perceive we're not receiving something it’s usually because we’re failing to appreciate what we already have and blocking the natural flow of abundance. Thus, the most common way to keep a trickle from being a torrent, is to not appreciate what we currently have. For example, a common theme I hear from people who are not experiencing creative, rewarding work is, "I'll be much happier when I'm doing what I love to do," or, "I'll be all set when I get a real career," not realizing their encounters and the quality they put forth in those encounters is their "real" career.

Negating our self, our relationships, or our work, does not bring forth abundance. Focusing on what we already have, that which is good in our life creates abundance. I once read an article on prayer where a Unity minister stated, "Most people pray for what they don't want, not what they want." This observation is indicative of the tremendous resistance we have to staying in the moment and to affirming the beauty presently in our life.

Everything is pure energy. As powerful transmitters, we are constantly broadcasting our beliefs into the universe. Like magnets, our thoughts create a dynamic force field, attracting people, resources and events into our life. Therefore, if we slam our work, we are by definition, slamming our own ability to create. It's never the situation, which needs correcting but our thoughts about the situation that need healing. And since each circumstance reflects our self-perception, our lives are enhanced by focusing not on our perceived darkness, but on our inherent light.

People sometimes ask, "Am I supposed to stay in an environment where I'm not treated as an equal or with respect?" "Should I stay employed where my work isn't appreciated?" We all need respect and appreciation in order to feel good about ourselves. It's not emotionally, physically, intellectually or spiritually healthy for anyone to stay in a position where appreciation is lacking (this pertains to relationships as well). Yet, we must ask, "Are we appreciating ourselves?" Truly, if we discount our work situation, we must feel discounting of ourselves. Further, "What thoughts do I hold about myself that are attracting this circumstance?" And finally, "Am I really giving everything I have to the situation to make it meaningful for myself and others?" At one point in my own life, while transitioning from the world of corporate business to spiritual writing and teaching, I performed some temporary work for a consulting firm. During that time, I concentrated on what A Course in Miracles calls a holy encounter which teaches, "When you meet anyone, remember it is a holy encounter. As you see him you will see yourself. As you treat him you will treat yourself. Never forget this, for in him you will find yourself or lose yourself." I became clear that my purpose for being at work was not merely for making money, but for connecting with others on a meaningful level.

Through daily spiritual practice, maintaining this awareness brought me joy. My encounters were peaceful and I felt my skills and talents were truly being employed by God. Each day, I expressed appreciation for the work before me and I had faith it was a stepping stone to something even greater.

During this period, I did much inner reflecting and it dawned on me that my former attraction to business was because of the safe, sterile haven it provided, a place where people often kept each other at arm's length. Yet at this passage in my development, I was prepared to bond more deeply. I began exposing myself in greater depth than ever before and shortly thereafter, the consulting work concluded. I then started exerting energy toward writing and healing on a full-time basis, and within one year, I was reaching out to, meeting, and assisting others in ways I had only dreamed of.

This example illustrates that my clarity of my strengths and talents, in and of itself, was not enough. The driving force behind my changes was the appreciation for what was in front of me. Through my willingness to express the highest quality effort into every task, I outgrew the form of the job and was graciously supplied with even more gratifying work.

Serving from your deepest truth while appreciating all that you have builds integrity and is the key to fulfilling your life's work. In The Gift of Love, Joel Goldsmith eloquently reminds us,

"Let us do each day the task that is given us to do now, regardless of how mundane it may appear to be; and if we fulfill that which is given us to do now, we shall find that more important things, and eventually what appear to be more spiritual things, will be given us to do--but not until we have done that which has already been given us to do."

Honor whatever work has been given to you. Know it is in your life for a very important reason and appreciate all of the lessons it is providing you with. As you recognize it as a stepping stone toward higher ground, you will begin to leap forward in your next adventure!

The Art of Being Present !

Being Present in all moments open the door to experiencing life within a sacred reality, the life of the soul and of other souls, the life that is emerging from within, the life of the Divine within time and space.
Being in the Present enables us to participate in each moment without preconditions, anticipating the new, letting go of the old, and rejoicing in what is possible with others as the eyes of the soul awaken.

Being present in the moment does not just mean taking part fully in the external situation that may be happening, whether it is a crisis, a conversation, or a life-event that evokes feelings. It means bringing one's whole Self to that moment, including all the threads of love, wisdom, and relationship that are part of the self.

To be present in the moment is to exist in it with the full integrity of one's being. Here, all relationships are honored and all love is intact. Respect for life is integrated with the totality of what may be happening on the outer level.
Being present means being present to what is inside as well as to what is outside. This is a way of existing in the fullness of who you are. It is a great learning and surely a great task of pure consciousness.

How are you "Being in the Present" in all moments of your life ?
Take a deep Breath and Feel !!!
Much love and presentness

What is love !!!

Love is a Might Power.
It is the energy of life. It bring us into life and sustains us while we live and breathe.
Love is an energy, not a substance. It is essence, not matter. You can not contain it; you can not put it in a box, but you can feel it, you can taste it, and know it.Its presence is unmistakable. It is exquisite and profound.      And when you are expressing love, nobody, not your best friend, your parents or even your own mind can talk you out of it.
Love is mysterious and beautiful. it makes us happy, gives us hope, allows us to believe that the impossible can happen.

And yet, it is inexplicable. it can not be defined or analyzed, cataloged or priced. Its premier property is that when it exists, it can never be mistaken for anything else, and nothing else, no matter how worthwhile or supposedly grand, can ever be passed off as love.

Love is a divine energy that steps into human circumstances, a timeless essence that enters time. It is older, wiser, finer, truer, sweeter, and more radiant than any human being itself. It is what makes us wise, fine, true, sweet, and radiant. It is best - the essence of God - in us.
~ Daphane R. Kingma

May we feel the amazing 'essence of God' in us and express it unconditionally; as we express out we are also bringing in!

Have a magnificent day ~ Namaste

"The Flows of our Inner Selves"

As I went through the many 'flows of my own selves' today,  I reconnected with the preciousness of life, as every and each moment just exists in the now !!

Last night, as I participated in a beautiful 'Fire Walk Ceremony' I received an awesome reminder, the words of Heraclitus: "You can't step into the same river twice".

As the "present" is a slippery little concept,  a snapshot of a moment. ~ Nothing stands still.

For that I share a poem with you.

You
You may not think the world needs you, but it does.
For you are unique, like no one that has ever come before or will come after.
No one can speak your voice, say your piece, smile your smile or shine your light.
No one can take your place, for it is yours alone to fill.
If you are not there to shine your light,
who knows how many travelers will lose their way
as they try to pass by your empty place in the darkness.

Are You a reflection of Nature ? Is Nature a reflection of You ?

Two days ago during one of my "nature watching moments" I caught myself mesmerized with 3 bunnies playing and running around on a field of wild grass, showing no signs of fatigue, worries or fear. Surely the presence of predators in the wild is inevitable, but at that particular moment they were totally and completely immersed in the magic of the now.

Suddenly I observe my thoughts (and being on the 7th day of a body cleanse, I feel a bit more in-tune with my thoughts, feeling and awareness of what is going on inside of me and around me) and within the flow of thoughts, the question of prime importance was, 'Am i being fully present within each moment of my day?'
As quite often I say, share and hear  within the practice of Yoga "...feel your body grounding on Earth, feel and sense the Earth, feel Nature, breathe in to the awareness of being the reflection of Nature, as Nature is the reflection of you..."
With that in mind, being me the reflection of Nature how much during my day do I feel light as the clouds, strong as the rain, rooted as the oak tree, flexible as the willow, bright

as the sunflower, wild as the open ocean, determined as the humming bird ?
Well, you got the point. Leaping from here to Nature as reflection of me/us, I keep on observing the overall planet Earth's weather patterns lately, wild tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, erupting volcanoes, torrential floods, massive landslides, drought and so on.
From the perspective of Nature as reflection of us, are we as a race creating so much internal and external turmoil bringing about inner and outer destruction? Are we massively polluting our inner temples and all the layers of mother Earth resulting in a massive 'internal shaking' in efforts to detox 'the gunk'? Are we firing our emotions beyond boundaries and spilling major rage and smoke only as a way of not internally imploding or are we literally spinning in circles without direction and creating vortex of untamed reactions?

Maybe beyond the limits of saying, sharing and listening on the reflections of Nature in us and us in Nature we can take it deeply to the core, the core of Self, the core of communities, the core of Nations and maybe, just maybe as we take the proper actions on the efforts of cleansing in and cleansing out, we as individuals will be able to not only reflect but truly embrace the peace of a sunset over the lake, taste the vibrancy of the orange right from the tree, own the courage of the tiger, acknowledge the wisdom of the turtle and the patience of the ostrich's egg.
And from that inner detox we assist on mother Earth care and cleanse so she will be embracing her on transformational /weather flows within a more and gentle ease.

Well, a thought just a thought!
Have a great day and enjoy the eyes and the mirrors of Nature on your daily path !

Can Yoga make you 'sick' ???

This is a cute and funny Blog by Ramdesh Kaur which I decided to share w/ you all.....enjoy it :) and have a good heart laugh through it ~ namaste

Can Yoga make you 'sick' ???

Oh no! I've discovered through extensive self-study corroborated by my dog and two blog readers that yoga can make you sick!  Beware these yoga-related diseases!

Persistent Happiness "Joyitis"

This disease is very dangerous.  No one likes someone who is persistently happy, preferring instead to be around those who form bonds through mutual complaining.  Symptoms include smiling, spontaneous laughter, a whole heart, and loving everyone.  If you find yourself suffering from Joyitis and want to be gloomy, cut your yoga practice.

Repeated Chanting  "Mantraitis"

I wish I could count the number of friend's I've lost to this scary disease.  Singing mantras not only sounds weird, but can also cause deep healing of long-time trauma, and who wants to loose residual trauma!  We worked hard for that trauma!  Definitely hold onto your trauma, prevent healing, and avoid that loosey-goosey feel good effect of chanting by refusing to sing or even listen to any inspiring mantras.

Unusual Flexibility "Gumbyitis"

Flexibility should be outlawed.  Rigidity really does make life better, and if you can't touch your toes or twist your spine you'll find you feel much more "normal" in your body.  Yoga is incredibly efficient at increasing flexibility physically which can lead to dangerous mental flexibility too.  You wouldn't want people to think you can love everyone, now would you?  Watch out!

Sustained Youth "Nowrinkleitis"

Nowrinkleitis is very worrisome.  There are some who claim that yoga can prevent aging and prolong youth.  That's just unholy.  We should all shrivel like prunes at the earliest possibility.  Definitely discontinue your yoga if you are finding side effects such as glowing skin, healthy internal organs, increased lung capacity and a youthful appearance.

If you experience any of these conditions, consult your yoga teacher today and  watch out for spontaneous laughter...it's a doozy!

Have a very healthy and delicious Yoga Day....today and today and today

Choosing to be happy !

This was placed on the front door of a healing center in a small town in Brazil.

The ‘cold’ drips down when the body is holding on to its tears.

The sore throat tightens when we cannot communicate our afflictions.

The stomach burns when the anger is not been released.

The diabetes expresses itself when loneliness hurts.

The body gets overweight when dissatisfaction overwhelms.

Headaches appear when doubts increase.

The heart gives in when the meaning of life is obscure.

Allergies show up when to be perfect becomes intolerable.

The nails break when the self-defenses become threatened.

The chest tightens when we slave self by pride.

Blood pressure heightens when fear imprisons.

Neurosis paralyze when the ‘inner child’ is abused.

Fever burns when the emotional defenses explode the immunity horizons.

Harvesting always comes after planting…Pay deep attention in what you are planting, since your harvesting is inevitable.

PS: Normally the ‘symptoms’ show up days or months after the “happening”, so check in what has been disturbing you and let it out by talking with friends, a professional if you choose, by feeling it, expressing it and choosing to move to that place of health and healing!....and surely smile, smile more and more

Wishing health, healing and the choice for inner peace, remember that your life is fully depended on your choices!!!

Thank you for reading, have a fabulous LIFE

EXCELLENCE ... 'not perfection' - A path worth taking

                                                    by Lou Corleto    ~   march 26 2011

This weekend Lydie and I went to bathe in one of our favorite artistic performances, Cirque Du Soleil.  If you have never seen one put it on your to do list now!!!
If you've seen it on DVD or TV make it a priority to go to a live show.

If you aren't move to tears by the "magic" you experience it's time to check in.
The first few words that come to mind are impeccable, freaky and mind blowing.
Impeccable because of the way the show is "delivered". The greatest attention to detail is placed on everything that is done, from the costumes, to the live music being played in sync with each and every performance.
Mind Blowing because while you are watching you mind is saying that is impossible.  "These people must be aliens".
Freaky because they are humans just like you and i.
They remind us of what the human body is capable when we commit to something with that degree of perseverance and dedication to their art.  The performers training MANY MANY hours everyday (some of them) only to perform for 20 minutes in the 2 hour show.

This brings me to my point of EXCELLENCE.

  Cirque Du Soleil- Totem
Here is a brief clip (which in no way does THE SHOW justice)

Excellence as define:
'a talent or quality which is unusually good and so surpasses ordinary standards'.

The Ancient Greeks had a concept of arete which meant an outstanding fitness for purpose. This occurs in the works of Aristotle and Homer. Another related concept was eudaimonia which was the happiness which resulted from a life well-lived, being prosperous and fulfilled.

Many people work towards perfection and that leads to madness for it is a state that does not exist.
You can strive for excellence in everything you do, no matter what you walk of life, profession, job or vocation.
Excellence in the areas of our relationships, academics, sports, hobbies (to name a few), causes us to GROW in all areas of our LIFE.  That is my definition of wellness, growing in all areas of our LIFE. (Wellness has nothing to do with the early detection and treatment of some labeled disease state- that is Wall Streets and Big Pharma's definition)

One area i would highly recommend you strive for excellence is in your health and well-being. Remember health and well-being are not "states" to achieve, they are not "places to arrive at". Yet they are states of being that require constant mind-fullness and proactive nurturing throughout your life. Wellness is an ATTITUDE which then directs your lifestyle choices.

Watch this very short clip to see what i mean.

Lydie  and I would like to invite you to be apart of the last healing retreat in the Caribbean we will be facilitating for many years.
Choose to be one of the 19 people that we will facilitate your well-being to excellence. There are only 7 spaces remaining. ~ June 12-18, 2011

"The Outer & Inner Seas"

The amazing opportunity to dive deep down & in the oceans of planet Earth is such a marvelous gift from life.
Exploring the natural beauty through the diversity of life in forms, shapes, colors, sizes, motions is a delightful gratitude awareness.
Observing the daily flow of the incredible ocean's cohabitants. The beauty of an elegant ray sweeping the sandy bottom, the mischievousness of the angel fishes looking for the best place to shine, the excitement of the puffers while inflating self and get ready to 'fight', ahhhh the lion fish as he poses for a picture on a rope of a king and the speed of a parrot fish  while munching on some interesting corals.

Talking about corals, wow how many colors, shapes, mysteries, surprises they hold and they express !
While you find the beauty and the gentle flow of sweet ocean passengers, you also experience the struggles for survival on moment by moment as they chase and get chased, as the surfer fishes take rides on bigger ones and on the next moment they might be the ride's favorite meal.     Or as for a glance the shark considered one of the most fantastic creature, can become the most feared one ! And without forgetting the glow of the start fish which might get a time to shine or might get a moment to hide.

How do we see and interact with this amazing universe which surround us ? How do we care for and protect it ?
Are the jelly fishes beauty or sting? Are the turtle wisdom or 'slow pokes' ? Is the barracuda a 'carnivore' or a protector ? Are the octopuses fearful or intriguing ? How about the creatures of the 'deep', the creatures of the night, the ugly, the unknown, the joyful, the scared ones....where do they all fit ???

As I go through those questions I realize the similarity or even the mirror image of our Outer and Inner Seas. The amazing beauty we have inside of Self, the mysteries, the excitements, the fears, the joyfulness, the mischievousness, the survival instincts, the multitask abilities (as the octopus), the ability to take rides and to be the ride, the giving and receiving of life, the wisdom and the constant desire to 'know', the struggles and the gentle flows, the 'deep & dark' and the 'light & easy'.

May we keep on diving, discovering and delighting within our own Inner and Outer Seas with respect, honoring, openness and truthfulness.

In joy and gratitude for this amazing Planet (in & out)

Doing - Giving - Service ~ a beautiful soul rewarding action form of Love

It is not how much we do,
but how much love we put in the doing.
It is not how much we give,
but how much love we put in the giving.
~Mother Teresa

Doing - Giving - Service ~  "a beautiful soul rewarding action form of Love"

How many times do we make a commitment to a friend, a family member,  a co-worker, ourselves… and then when asked about it, we say “opss, I believe I forgot about it”?

Doesn’t it happen way too often??

So, how about a little challenge on this Valentine’s Day on an ‘action form of love’?

If you have committed to assist someone or do something for a friend, or even you have committed something for yourself…..follow through.
Keep the commitment you have made to you and to them. In this way, keep the ‘loving action on the move’.
Doing so you will feel the peace, love and accomplishment rewards as reflected on your own integrity.

It is pretty simple, right?

We can all do it! And let’s do it together.

Thank you for taking time to read today’s thought and keep on ‘spreading the love’
Happy Love Day (today, today, today)

A Lovely Visit

The other Saturday we at the studio had a lovely visit from a Yogini from 'the world', Kendall Crowder who has a beautiful website called Namaste y'all where she and her husband share their love for yoga. She posted an article about us, so take a look and support in 'spreading the word about the amazing world of Yoga'

We took a spontaneous family trip to northeastern Tennessee this weekend, before all the snow melted away but after the sun came out to cast a brilliant light on it all. It was the perfect weather to cozy into a warm Saturday morning yoga class at InnerSea Yoga in Johnson City, with sunlight streaming into big windows to warm cold hands and feet. The folks at InnerSea were warm and welcoming, too, and we are so happy to be able to add their full write-up to the Johnson City page on our site. Read about them here, and if you get a chance to make the drive from Asheville to Johnson City on I-26 you really should while the mountains are still sparkly white. Finish your drive with an energy-restoring class at InnerSea Yoga. You won’t be sorry!
InnerSea Yoga is a beautiful, heart-filled space in the upper level of an old house-turned-studio in Johnson City. What a "Good Walk" can do !

A good walk is one of the best ways to clear the mind, to focus the mind, or just unravel the tangled threads of a situation. The mind works better when the feet are moving.

When my mother wanted to describe a troublesome, complicated situation, she would say “All the circumstances got involved.” It sounded funny at the time, but as I have dealt with life’s challenges I can see how often “all the circumstances get involved.”

To clear up involved circumstances, Aborigines do walkabouts. Essentially they walk until they find a solution or peace with a problem.

Native Americans do a vision quest in search of a guiding star for their lives. They can be on a walking quest for days or even weeks. Any kind of inner stagnation can become the object of a vision quest. They may be searching for a life goal, clarity on a relationship, or a vision containing the power to deal with a recurring life problem.

Whatever you prefer to call it, walking can serve all these purposes and more. I do walks to write songs when I get a little stumped. It has never failed to help with the writing.

I also like to do “walking affirmations.” Take a short statement you wish to implant in your subconscious mind and repeat it throughout the walk — not in a grit-the-teeth determined way but in a relaxed, pleasant way. I find slow walks are best for this kind of practice.

Walking meditations have become popular. A walk to simply explore and find wonders to relish is always a joy. A walk to unfocus the mind when it has become too attached to a problem or situation, like illness or the death of a loved one, can bring thoughts of comfort.

We are mostly shallow breathers in our automated, non-exercising society. A short walk to simply take in deep breaths of fresh air will oxygenate the entire body. Just make sure you don’t do this on or near a highway where there is a lot of carbon monoxide. I prefer the lake area near my home or several public walkways through dense woods.

Cease viewing walks as a burden. Realize they are special treats for you to add to your life for pure pleasure. See them as wings for your soul, for that’s exactly what they are.

WARRIOR II ~ VIRABHADRASANA II

For the Warrior II pose, we start in Tadasana (mountain pose). Feet parallel, legs strong, spine align, arms engaged besides the body, navel gently lifted, chest/heart open and top of the head (crown) to the skies.

Bring the feet apart and the arms in a T formation, still spine align, heart open and full body awareness.

Turn the front foot facing the top of your mat and fold the front knee to a ninety degrees angle (remember it is ‘your’ warrior, if you desire to fold a bit less than 90, to be more gentle with your pose, or drop the kips closer to the earth to be more challenging with your pose, just listen to your body and go for it).

Making sure your alignment is there, meaning the shoulders are align with your hips rather than forward than the hips or leaning back from your hips.

Enjoy the pose (asana) and receive the benefits as you connect with it, breathe onto it, feel it, Be the asana.

Benefits: This posture strengthens your legs, back, shoulders, and arms, building stamina. It opens your hips and chest – bringing that amazing ‘heart open’ sensation,  improves balance and stimulates 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th chakras.
It is called the Warrior in reference to the fierce and filled with life warrior, an incarnation of Shiva
